Lighting can make or break a photo — and understanding how to control it is essential for any photographer. In this hands-on class, we will walk you through the core principles of lighting using flashes and modifiers, helping you build a strong foundation for studio and on-location work.

What You’ll Learn:

The Three Pillars of Light:

  • Quality – Learn how different flashes affect color temperature, consistency, and output speed.
  • Quantity – Understand how much light you need and how to control it.
  • Direction – Explore light placement and setup to achieve various moods and looks.

Technical Setup:

  • How to connect and sync multiple flashes
  • Using channels and remotes for external triggering
  • Troubleshooting common flash issues

Modifiers & Tools:

  • Explore reflectors, softboxes, and other modifiers
  • Learn how to adapt lighting setups for different scenarios and environments

Monty Soungpradith is an award-winning photographer whose passion began at age 14 with a Kodak Disc 4000 gifted by his father. Though he stepped away from photography for a time, the birth of his children reignited his love for storytelling through the lens. Today, Monty blends emotional depth with artistic vision in his work.

He specializes in photographing weddings, families, and commercial lifestyle projects, capturing authentic moments with creativity and care.

Monty is a member of PPA, WPJA, WPPI, and the Lifestyle Photographers Association.
